About the coffee
Both our Red Bourbon Rwandan coffees have been sourced directly through our good friends at Tropic Coffee, a renowned processing and export company founded in 2015. At Tropic Coffee, they believe in building meaningful connections between farmers, customers, and the coffee they share. Their philosophy revolves around empowering farmers, especially women, who make up 45% of our 850 smallholder coffee producers. By offering additional payments and training, they ensure fair compensation, improved livelihoods, and outstanding coffee quality. Each cup you enjoy is the result of meticulous hand-picking, sustainable farming, and respect for the land and people who nurture it.
These lots are grown in the heart of Rwanda's central plateau, renowned for its rich volcanic soils, high altitudes (1,650–1,850m), and ideal coffee-growing conditions. This coffee comes from the Mbuye Sector in the Ruhango District, a region celebrated for producing complex and vibrant coffee profiles, every cherry is hand-picked at peak ripeness, carefully processed, and meticulously dried before export. Our Natural lot was awarded 5th place in the Best of Rwanda awards and is a testament to the quality and complexity of this coffee and the farmers who produce and process it.
